Use the current rating-board record

The ESRB GTA VI record identifies the game, publisher, platforms and rating directly. Use that title-specific entry for the North American classification instead of copying GTA V’s rating as a prediction. Regional classifications can differ, so check the board or storefront that applies to your country before making a purchase decision.

At this review, the PlayStation product page’s FAQ still says GTA VI ratings are unconfirmed, while the ESRB publishes a Mature 17+ record. We rely on the rating board for that classification and document the discrepancy rather than silently repeating the older FAQ wording.

Read the warnings before deciding on suitability

The ESRB record flags violence, sexual themes, nudity, language, substance-related content and mature humor, as well as purchases within the game. A label is a starting point for a family discussion, not a promise that all mature material is optional or that an individual scene can be filtered out.

Review what concerns your household rather than relying on a short promotional clip. Separate the game’s fictional content from interactions enabled by the platform account. Then decide on access, playtime and spending as distinct choices; a spending restriction does not remove mature story content.

Check the child’s PS5 account settings

Sony’s family-controls guide directs parents to Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management on PS5, then the child’s account. Review the age level for games, allowed-game exceptions, communication settings and monthly spending limit. These controls belong to the account, so verify which account the child actually uses.

Sony says parental-control changes made while a child is playing may require the child to sign out and back in. After adjusting settings, check the resulting access through the intended child account. Keep adult-account credentials under your control rather than using an adult account as a workaround for a restricted game.

Questions, answered.

What is GTA 6’s ESRB age rating?

The reviewed ESRB GTA VI record lists Mature 17+ for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.

Does age verification make GTA 6 suitable for children?

No. Account verification and content suitability are separate questions. Consult the game’s rating and your platform’s child-account controls.
